Zombicide!

I finally bought Zombicide a few weeks back and we broke it out for family game night last night.  We only played the tutorial (Mission 00) but we all had fun.  We would have played Mission 01 but we ran out of time.

This is a great game!  Once you get a grasp of the rules it flows quickly and smoothly.  There is a good sense of tension as things start off relatively in control and then quickly escalate.  The turns move quickly enough that no one got bored and the cooperative nature of the game was a fun way for us to bond as family.  The game even inspired my "Princess" daughter to roller skate her character into a room full of zombies, swinging a fire axe.  Her wicked laugh was priceless!  Of course, she almost got eaten, but her brother came to her rescue.  Was great fun!  We look forward to playing more soon.

Yours truly figuring out the rules early in the game.

"Princess" about to boldly go where she probably shouldn't!

The kids (age 11 and 9) loved it.  The wife (age classified) loved it.  I got to do what I love:  spend time with family and play games with zombies.  A win-win-win!

  1. It really is a great game. I describe it as "a campy zombie movie boardgame, not The Walking Dead, but Shawn of the Dead." Otherwise some people get irritated about it being not serious.

Have you gone to Guillotine Games' website? It has a bunch of extra missions for download. Many of them are far better than the ones in the book.

    1. I agree - campy, quirky and fun. As I said, kids loved it and the artwork isn't too over the top gory. More cartoonish, which is fine for the littles.

I've been to the website but haven't tried any new missions yet. Just getting started but looking forward to more!

  2. Hah! My experience of pre-teen kids is that they love games where they get to charge forward and kill things :-) . But don't ask them to be subtle :-) ...

    1. True story! They had a blast and little brother rescuing his big sister was a cause for a bit of taunting. : )

  4. Oh, 4 players, doesn't get better than that! The game is a great, great fun at start, but don't overplay it (as in play it for 2-3 days straight :P).

    1. I don't think we need worry about over play. We have lots of family games we enjoy. I'd like to try it with 5 players when our eldest is home. Should make for a fun night.

  5. It's a superb game. The four scenarios in the box are great and then downloads on their website give it some huge re-playability

    1. I must have picked up a 2nd edition because I have 10 missions plus the tutorial. But yes, a superb game! I looked at some of the missions online and there is LOTS of great stuff. This game will have some longevity for my family.

    1. It was a good evening. Family game night is a sporadic thing at our house at best but with Zombicide in the offering I think we'll play a bit more often.
