15mm SciFi Current Sitrep

I've been working on a lot of stuff in a random way.  Here are some pics of the current situation on my desk.
Dropship with base coat of Khaki Tan and wash of medium brown.
Bug holes from Khurasan, Desert Yellow base paint, brown wash, Iraqi Sand highlights.  "Holes" shaded to give depth. A few more little details and these will be finished.
Critical Mass Games Vanguard Mech being assembled. Will magnetize waist connection so torso can swivel.
CMG Mech parts cleaned and ready for assembly.
Khurasan Space Demons test paint - Black base with dark blue highlights and then washed with black Polyshades "shader" to give them dark, slimy look.  I don't think it is working.  Too dark.  I will probably be stripping these and starting over.
So, that's my desk these days. Working here and there on things as the mood suits me.  I'm also looking for a gaming group in the Toledo, OH area if any of my readers are nearby and interested.  Would love to get some regular games going.

Until next time, carry on!

  1. With the bugs you probably need to drybrush with a very bright blue then apply a wash to blend the two colours.

Nice to see the bug holes and ship being worked on its coming along at a good pace.

The Walker will be great can't wait to see it with a lick of paint on it.

    1. I'm going to start over with the bugs. I'm considering a more desert feel to them - dry, green, lizardy. I'll do some tests and see what I come up with.

  2. It amazes me how you can paint stuff that small.
    Great work dude.

  3. I found my aliens were too dark when going black/dark blue ink. I tried drybrushing up with some grey tones prior to a blue wash and they looked a lot better.

I'm not familiar with the shader wash and how it'd affect my suggested approach though. My bugs look 'dry'.

    1. I'm going to go with a lighter paint scheme. They won't be like the film version but they'll do.

    1. Thanks! Finished the holes yesterday and put a first dry brush on the dropship. Also finished assembling and undercoated the mech. Things are coming along well.
